Quality Control
The mark of a sound business
No matter what you’re selling, quality assurance is essential to the success of your business. Not only will a good quality control plan help ensure that your customers keep coming back, it will also help establish your reputation as a business so you can grow your customer base through word-of-mouth advertising.
The trick to quality assurance is knowing what sorts of quality control tools are right for your business. If you’re manufacturing luxury goods, it may be worth your while to have every product inspected. But if you’re in a business that demands a high yield of product in a short time, it may be a better strategy to test only a percentage of your product for quality.
Remember, there is no single “right way” to do quality assurance. Depending on the nature of your business, your quality control solution may be very different from the norm. It is worth giving careful consideration to the nature of your business before investing too heavily in a quality control system. There are many strategies that have worked for businesses in the past. Some of them include:
- High Quality Goods. For businesses that generate a small number of high-quality products, it may be worth inspecting everything that goes out your door. But if you don’t have time for this, train your employees. Providing your employees with a high standard of quality assurance training should help guarantee a higher level of quality in everything they have produced. Tell them specifically what constitutes a good product and turn them all into quality control inspectors.
- Mass Production. If you’re producing a thousand products a minute, inspecting every product is downright inefficient. But there are still ways to ensure the quality of your product. If you are running a larger operation that utilizes mass production, it’s worth investing in a quality control system that you can really rely on. A trained quality assurance manager should be able to provide you with solutions that are specifically tailored to your business.
- Quality Control Software. Finally, if you’re short-staffed and have a lot to keep track of, quality control software could be the answer. There are simple programs available to help you keep track of inventory and damaged goods, but the potential for software as a quality control system is limitless. A computer quality control program can control quality with mathematical accuracy, and may be just the thing for keeping tabs on your product.
